KIRK ASIA, part of KIRK GROUP, has designed, supplied and installed three BIODOME® Double Membrane Roofs on existing in-ground lagoon digesters at Blankahan, Indonesia.
This is a first for KIRK GROUP, adding to the existing number of landmark projects recently completed. The site is a biogas plant treating palm oil mill effluent (POME) for the Angle Eastern Plantations. Working closely with them and Future NRG, BIODOME ASIA completed the three largest roofs ever to be installed by the Group, each measuring approximately 23metres wide, 35metres long and 6metres high. The project also included a glass-fused-to-steel digester with a BIODOME® roof. The erection of the GFS digester as well as the roofs for the in-ground lagoons was completed in just two weeks from starting on-site.
Traditionally in-ground lagoons are covered with a single layer HDPE or geo-membrane which can at times compromise the operations and safety of the working plant. With the industry-leading BIODOME® roofs now in place the site will be able to produce and store the biogas more safely and realising it as renewable energy for use at the site.
This project highlights the experience of the KIRK GROUP installation teams, their versatility in tackling a new project and carry out construction without any delays. This was also possible thanks to the experience and knowledge of the engineering, project management and business support teams both at the head office in the UK and the regional office in Malaysia.
This project will take its place among the existing large portfolio of completed work across the world, where integrating a biogas storage unit on top of an existing tank has proved to be a safe, reliable and popular option both for the operational benefits and in increased project footprint reductions.
